Guide to Issue a New Private Driver’s License Its Fees

Faydety team is here to tell you all about the steps to acquire a driver’s license for the first time, what is the needed paperwork, what happens if you fail the driver’s test, as well as the validity of the license. 

Steps & Paperwork:

Head to your designated Traffic Department (depends on the address on your National I.D card). 

Buy form #256 – acquire a driver’s license for the first time- and submit it at the appropriate window. 

Copy of your national ID card (they will also check the original). 

Copy of graduation certificate (they will check the original).

Medial certificate (internal and Ophthalmology) proving medical fitness. These two can be obtained at the Traffic Unit. 

Blood type (can be obtained at the Traffic Unit). 

4 recent personal photos (4*6)

The applicant must be at least 18 years old. 

Negative drug test certified from specific labs. 

Applicant must pass the driving course provided by the Traffic Units. 

No prior convictions or misdemeanours.

The license’s validity: 

• The license is valid for 10 years from date of issue.
• It must be renewed within 30 days of end date.
• There can’t be an unpaid late fee at the time of renewal.
• All other conditions for renewal must be met.

Fees in 2022:

• Medical tests and blood typing: 285 EGP.
• Taxes: 615 EGP (includes insurance fees and developing national resources fee)
• Form #256: 65 EGP.
• Road sign testing form: 10 EGP.
• File and box to store application: 35 EGP.
• Stamp: 15 EGP.
• Information form: 105 EGP.

In total the license costs around 1000 EGP. 

What if you fail the driving test?

In this case a second test is arranged within 1-3 months. 

If you pass the test you will proceed to pay the above mentioned fees then head directly to the imaging unit. You will receive the license the same day.
